SOMETHING COOL: Watch As Young Man Interviews Himself 38 Years In The Future

Peter Emshwiller

An 18 year old Peter Emshwiller filming his film ‘Later That Same Life’ back in 1977.

LET’S face it, we all spend an inordinate amount of time worrying about what’s to become of us in the future and what we will end up as in life.

What if though, you could somehow ‘interview’ your younger/older self and ask/tell them anything you wanted, what would you say?

This is the brilliantly simple concept behind Peter ‘Stoney’ Emshwiller’s latest film project entitled ‘Later That Same Life’.

Back in 1977, when he was a long-haired, slightly fresh faced 18 year old, Peter sat down and recorded a series of interview questions which he imagined he would ask his ‘older’ self.

Peter, now 56 years old, recently returned to finish the second half of his project, 38 years later, with the results as strange, wonderful and intriguing as you would expect.

Peter is hoping to release the full length film and has set up a fundraising page HERE to help do so.

You can check out a brief snippet of the film in the video down below…

VIDEO: UK Singer Kelly Oliver Sings About Tralee In Her New Music Video

Kelly Oliver 2

Kelly Oliver has premiered her music video for ‘Miles to Tralee’ online.

A TALENTED UK singer and songwriter that recently penned a tribute song about her grandmother’s journey to England has now seen the music video for her song premiere online.

The London-based singer is the creative talent behind the song ‘Miles To Tralee’ which tells the tale of how her grandmother left her hometown of Tralee to go to England in order to find work and her desire to return home to Tralee and the land of her birth.

“The video is set in London, and shows me walking the streets, imagining the longing my grandmother might have felt to return to her home in Tralee once more,” said Kelly talking to Fergus Dennehy recently.

“I am very connected to my Irish roots, and feel very much a part of the culture when I visit Ireland. This is something I feel my grandmother has passed on to me,” said Kelly when talking to Fergus Dennehy recently.

“I am a contemporary folk singer influenced heavily by traditional Irish music and was inspired to write about her story because she has partly inspired my career as a folk singer. It makes me happy to think about her whenever I sing it, which is an element of the folk song tradition,” she finished.

‘Miles to Tralee’ will be officially released on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and Bandcamp on November 20 and will feature on Kelly’s second album which is set to be released in March 2016.

TRALEE NEWS: Patients At Kerry General Hospital At High Risk Of Infection According To New Report

Kerry General Hospital

A new HIQA report has stated that patients in KGH are at a high risk of infection.

A REPORT compiled by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has found that patients in the Kerry General Hospital are at a high risk of infection due to a substandard physical enviornment.

The report which was compiled in July of this year, the first of two reports compiled on the hospital, found that high risk findings were identified in relation to the maintenance and infrastructure of the Operating Theatre Complex, the infrastructure of the Oncology Day Unit and the management of the legionella related risk.

The physical enviornment within the hospital was reported to have been below the national and international standard required to reduce the risk of infection to patients.

It is stated in the report that “extensive deficiencies in the maintenance in the hospital physical environment were
observed by inspectors in the Operating Theatre Complex. Overall, the Operating Theatre Complex was dilapidated with several areas of ceilings, walls, woodwork, and floors significantly damaged, worn and non-intact to the extent that they could not be cleaned effectively, and facilitated the production and accumulation of dust.”

It goes on to state the the findings were “unacceptable” in any clinical area but are of particular concern in high risk clinical areas such as operating theatres.

The findings of the follow up report, compiled in August of this year, were significantly more positive it seems after it was stated that numerous plans had been put in place by hospital authorities to oversee the improvements in the required areas of the hospital.

TRALEE NEWS: Local Scout Leader On Look Out For Adult Members To Join New Scout Troop

Jason Kelly

Jason Kelly is on the look out for new adult members for his Rover troop.

ONE LOCAL SCOUT leader is on the lookout for any like-minded individuals in the county that would be interested in joining the new ‘Rover Troop’ that he is in the midst of setting up.

The new group would involve hiking, camping, mountaineering and a whole host of other outdoor activities.

Ardfert’s Jason Kelly is an experienced scout through and through having joined the historic and popular organisation close to six years ago and who is now on the hunt for any individuals out there, experienced or complete beginners, to join in with the new up and coming troop.

“Well, Rovers’ is the eldest youth member section (18 – 26 years) within Scouting Ireland. It’s the last section before you move onto  becoming a ‘Scouter’, or Leader, as it would more commonly be called,” said Jason talking to the Tralee Outlook on Tuesday.

“Rovers has been gone from Kerry for a long time now, and myself along with another Rover in the county, Michael, from Killorglin, are looking to get it back going again,” he continued.

“The Crew, or Troop, will plan, do, and review all their own activities, which could range from anything from the traditional
scouting activities such as camping and hiking, to partaking in national activities such as ‘Rover Chill’, or going to international events such as ‘Rover Way’ & Jamboree, or just a nice quiet pint down the pub!,” he said.

What kind of people would they be looking for in the new troop then?

“What we’re looking for is anyone between the ages of 18 and 26, who would be interested, to get in contact as soon as possible. We’ve already put a few people together, but the more people we have the more activities and opportunities will be open to us. No previous experience of Scouting is necessary, but we do ask for genuine interest,” he finished.

Anyone looking to find out more information or sign up right away can do so by getting contact with either Jason (086 261 9877) or Michael (0851471799).

Welcome!

Me

Welcome, I guess 🙂

Hey there,

First off, sincerest thanks for taking the time to time to stop by my humble site, I apologise for the mess…I’ve only just moved in really. I guess an explanation of what I’m hoping to do here should probably be my first order of business, so let’s get to it shall we?

The main reason behind the site is that I’ve always been a tad ‘scatter-brained’ when it comes to keeping things organised , so I figured if I have a place for everything and one that’s neatly arranged, then everything becomes much simpler really.

Secondly, I’ve seen advertised countless times over the internet the need for an ‘online profile’ of sorts. This is supposedly meant to benefit you when it comes to job interviews and displaying your work to employers, so in the spirit of job-seeking, I figured I would give this a go.

In terms of what I will be posting here, it will be a combination of blog posts such as this, any freelance news articles that I might write (gotta practice those journalism skills!), some short stories or poems and finally, any photos that I might take while out on my travels.

I think that covers everything, knowing myself as I do, there’s probably a million more things that I could throw in, but for now, I’ll sign off.

Drop me a line if you want to know anything and until then, have a great day!

-Fergus
